Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Oil Review

As I continue to mention, I’m pretty rubbish when it comes to styling hair, I wish I was better as I would love to be able to do vintage style up dos and waves. Last week I went to a Bumble and Bumble event with Smashbox and had my hair done in the most perfect style, all done with Bumble products and just some straighteners. Here’s some snaps from the event to show you, it was such a fun night!

Photobooth action with Aisling and Gemma, I love photobooths, I wish all events had them as it’s so fun!

Bumble and Bumble Press Event Photobooth Photo

Here’s me mid hair do, the stylist highly disapproved of my DIY fringe trim and dodgy hair dye job. In this photo my shade is Garnier Nutrisse Intense Copper.

Me and Aisling fooling around in shades at Ping Pong after the event. I stole Gemma’s shade and Aisling is wearing Prada, of course!

Check out the back of my head! You can see the excellent chunk of hair that I missed dying with my DIY dye job. Oops. But really, look at how amazing this hair straightener created vintage style wave is! Wish I could recreate this. But if I can’t even dye the back of my head I doubt I can style it.

Here’s my favourite Bumble and Bumble product at the moment, it’s a simple one and super easy to use so I can’t really do wrong with it. It looks scary in it’s fluro orange bottle, but never fear that’s just the colour of the plastic and not actually the product, because let’s be honest, that would be weird. It come in a handy pump bottle, which is easy to use and dispenses without any mess.

Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser's Oil Invisible Oil Review

It’s a clear oil that feels lightweight and non-greasy. It has a lovely sweet scent a little like coconut. It contains a nourishing blend of Sweet Almond, Coconut and Safflower Oil and contains a UV filter and heat protection ingredients. You can use it on wet hair prior to styling or on dry hair to smooth and finish hair. I’ve been using it on my dry ends to smooth crispy ends! I use a lot of hair oils and this is the best one I’ve found so far. It’s not too heavy, so you have a smaller risk of a greasy accident. You only need a little too, so it will last you a long time. Really recommend this oil, it’s lovely.

Lime Crime Poisonberry Opaque Lipstick in Poisonberry Review

As my regular readers will know I am a huge fan of American make up brand, Lime Crime. Yes, there’s loads of controversy around the brand its founder, but at the end of the day the products on their own are fantastic quality and super different from anything else on the market. I’m a huge fan. Today, I’m reviewing one of the latest additions to my collection, Lime Crime Opaque Lipstick in Poisonberry, part of the Alchemy collection that launched around Halloween last year. First off, how can you not love the packaging, it’s purple, holographic and has a flipping Unicorn on it, surely that’s the best thing ever?

Lime Crime Vegan Opaque Lipstick in Metallic Purple Poisonberry Lipstick Review with SwatchThis is quite an unusual shade, in the bullet is a super dark, blackberry shade of purple with a touch of a shimmer in it. It’s delightful. I’ve been a fan of purple lipsticks for a long time, but haven’t found many that I felt I could pull off. As with the rest of the Lime Crime lipsticks, the texture is creamy and smells of cocoa butter. Delicious! How can you not love a lipstick that smells like chocolate?!

Lime Crime Vegan Opaque Lipstick in Metallic Purple Poisonberry Lipstick Review with SwatchWhen applied the colour is more sheer, closer to a black cherry shade, however, the colour is buildable. So if you want a pretty wash of berry colour it works for that, or you can build it up for a bolder purple lip. A super versatile shade, which I can’t stop wearing at the moment. It might look like a scary colour to try, but it really does work for a lot of skin tones and styles. On pale skin, it’s a bold statement and on darker skin tones it would also be wonderful. Here it is worn with Illamasqua Blusher in Lover, bareMinerals Original Foundation, bareMinerals Mineral Veil, Clinique Mascara, Illamasqua Precision Ink in Wisdom and a finishing touch of white MUA eyeliner.

Lime Crime Vegan Opaque Lipstick in Metallic Purple Poisonberry Lipstick Review with Swatch

Lime Crime Vegan Opaque Lipstick in Metallic Purple Poisonberry Lipstick Review with SwatchMy hair colour is this set of photos is La Riche Direction in shade Fire. It really grabbed on my lighter ends and ended up a bit pink, which I’m totally not cool with. So didn’t stick with this shade for long. However, with it being a semi-permanent conditioning shade, I feel I can experiment without causing a lot of damage to my hair, so why not mess about a bit?

What do you think of purple lipstick?

Have you tried anything from Lime Crime?

Mahogany Hairdressing Hanover Square London Review

I was in serious need of a haircut this month. I have been colouring my hair myself for about two months now, putting all sorts of shades of red and orange on my hair and even trimming my own fringe. My DIY fringe trimming had caught the attention and annoyance of quite a few hair stylists this month, to the point I realised that I really, really, really needed to do something about it. So, when I was asked to pop along to Mahogany Hairdressing, just off Hanover Square in London, there couldn’t have been a better time. Here’s the before shot, you can see how dodgy my fringe had become, oops! Lots of split ends too and generally looking a bit out of control….

Being invited to a salon in an expensive part of London, such as Mayfair always makes me a bit nervous. Am I going to feel out of place? Is it going to be pretentious? And how awkward will it be to be a scruffy mid-20s girl in a ridiculously rich and different world. I’m pleased to say that on arrival at Mahogany Hairdressing, it wasn’t awkward at all. A sleek, clean salon with a bit of a vintage vibe going on with the decor. The staff were welcoming and friendly too, so no awkwardness here. I really do generally hate going to hairdressers, and I’m sure I’m not alone in this feeling, so it’s always a damn good start when you get a warm and relaxed welcome.

It’s always so important that you have some kind of spark with your hairdresser too, you’ve got to like their own style and be able to have a good chat and I’m pleased to say that in hairstylist Jack, that was present. It always puts me at ease in a hair salon when you’ve got that spark with your hairdresser. It’s also an added bonus that he was kind of cute and may even be straight too! Too much information for a hair salon review? Oh well. The assistants were also lovely. As part of my visit I also received a Moisture Kick treatment, a thick conditioner like blend that is applied to the hair and left to work its magic before it’s washed out. After all the hair dying trauma my hair has gone through I really needed this for my hair.

I told Jack, the hair dresser about how crap I am at hair styling, so was looking for something a bit different but was easy to manage. So, Jack cut my hair in a zig zag section to add natural shape, volume and movement without much styling effort. I’ve not seen this before, so it was really interesting to see if in action. And how pretty does the star shape sectioning look? I also decided I should see the return of my short fringe, I like having my hair be a statement, I’ve never had it so bold until this year.

Right, first off. Now that I’ve got a short fringe I totally need to sort my eyebrows out! Looking odd without any definition. But yes, the cut is lovely. I love the sharp, smooth fringe and the layered hair cut means that I have a edgy cut with lots of movement and shape without any effort. It’s taken a lot of weight off my hair and made it much more interesting. I love it. Really impressed with the salon’s relaxed, friendly environment and the sleek decor. Jack, the stylist was lovely and friendly (and cute) and did a great job with lots of attention to detail. I would totally go back and would recommend to anyone.

Personal Blog: Sacrifices and New Adventures

So much has happened over the past few months, since I separated from my husband ( together for nine years and married for three!) It’s been a life changing experience. I’ve been pondering how much I should share online about the experience, but have realised that I have a story to tell that will hopefully be both entertaining and inspiring, so why hold back? I’m not the first person to go through this and won’t be the last, but I hope my sharing will help bring a positive focus to anyone else going through something sad.

With the inspirational @FleurDeGuerre

Sacrifices

No matter how long you’re in a relationship for you will always be making certain sacrifices for the other person, these could be anything big or small. You might not even realises how much you’ve changed for your relationship, I know I didn’t know until after it was over. Stupid, little things like thinking about what he’s doing before making plans and bigger things like adapting your style to suit his taste, not listening to your own music, I was doing all of these things and didn’t even realise the impact it was making on my life until recently. Being with someone since I was sixteen, I didn’t realise how much our relationship had shaped who I had become. Now I’m single, I feel like myself for the first time in nearly ten years!

Teacup Cocktails with @Fluttersparkle

Breaking up is horrible, it’s never going to be easy. For me, I’m focusing on the positives, the new opportunities and the freedom I’ve discovered, this way you’ll soon realise that everything will be ok. Because I had basically grown up with my hubby, there’s a lot of standard, young person things I never did. I had a lot of fears back then that made it a challenge for me to do many things that would be considered normal. I was extremely phobic of busy places, going out at night and particularly going anywhere by myself, since the split, I’m tackling these fears. I did go to a few sessions of private therapy to help with my fears and that’s certainly helped give me a healthier way to look at things that I was afraid of and now I’ve tackled many of them, I can see how irrational they were.

New Adventures

Ok, so now the positive stuff. First off, there’s a blatant change in my style, I’ve dyed my hair, adopted and fringe and have started dressing exactly how I like. However, there is more and I want to share with you a list of some of the things I’ve done in the past few months that I have never done before….

  • Had a shot, I’ve had Sambuca, Vodka and Jagerbombs now. The opportunity had never arisen before and I didn’t think I’d be bothered. The only problem, was that Sambuca shot ended up mostly on my face and not in my mouth.
  • Been to a nightclub. Yes, I had never been to a nightclub until last month, when I had a completely unplanned visit to G-A-Y in Soho, which was SO much fun. Last night, I went to Last Resort a pop punk, nu-metal club night and again that was a lot of fun, there was a mosh pit and everything.
  • Given my phone number to a guy I met in a bar. What with me being in a relationship since I was 16, this had naturally never happened. The guy hasn’t been in touch, I think it’s mostly to do with the fact that I had the aforementioned Sambuca shot on my face and had been drawing on people with Biros for the past four hours. Not cool.
  • Dated. Of course, again, never had the opportunity to date, so I’ve been giving online dating a go. I’ve been on a lot of dates and they have all been really interesting. I don’t know what I want out of dating yet, but really enjoying just meeting new people and getting out and enjoying London. I’ve also been enjoying the hilarious messages that you get on online dating sites too, but that’s another story.
  • Missed the last train home. Again, never been out that late before, so had to pay for  taxi instead. A little thing, but still, something I think everyone has to have experienced at least once.
  • Gotten home in the early hours of the morning. Never happened before, the thought of being away from home past 11pm seemed mental to me before and now I’ve gotten home at about 1am a few times. I know that’s not mega late, but for me, that’s big!
  • Had a hangover. My first ever hangover was about three months ago now, so just before me and hubby split. But still, think it’s insane that I never had a hangover until now. It was bad, I thought I was going to die.
  • Been a flirt. This is more a general thing. I’ve always been so polite because I’ve been in a relationship and never flirted at all. In fact, I used to avoid interacting with attractive men because I thought it would make him jealous. Now, it turns out I’m a natural flirt and it’s a lot of harmless fun.
  • Started modelling again. Another thing that I stopped because he didn’t like it. Now I’ve started modelling again, it’s a huge confidence boost and so much fun. I want to have something to show for the time I spent in my youth and for me, this is perfect.

My beautiful work friend @SineadyMcG

There are more things, but I think this is a good, thorough sum up for now. I just want to say, thank you to everyone who has been such a huge support in this weird time of change, I’ve got amazing friends who have really come into their own recently and been such a huge confidence booster and incentive to get out there and have fun. Thank you. I’m so happy at the moment, yes I have times that I feel low and lonely still, but that’s normal, so I’m not going to let it get me down.

Change is good, it’s scary and it can be upsetting, but ultimately, change is what makes us a stronger person and more interesting. So, basically, if you’re going through a change right now, don’t worry too much, focus on the positives and make the most of life.

bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Behind the Scenes Photoshoot

I freaking love my life right now, I’m feeling like myself for the first time in a long while and I’m getting to do some amazing things. A few weeks ago, I was involved with bareMinerals on a behind the scenes shoot with some beauty bloggers and I took part too. So I’m excited to be sharing with you some of the snaps and info on the amazing new Marvelous Moxie lips collection that launches instore and online today. I’ll be reviewing some of the products in more detail very soon, but basically, it’s amazing and great to see a mineral make up brand branch out into something that can easily compete with the likes of MAC and the other big, conventional make up brands.

This is my favourite photo from the day, me with the bareMinerals team and some of my favourite bloggers EpiphannieA, LauraLouMakeup and Jemima and Ted. Basically, the day was about finding out more about the bareMinerals brand and to experience a behind the scenes peek of a photoshoot. Each of us had our make up done by one of the bareMinerals team and then starred in our own portrait shoot. Don’t think I need to say much on this one, so just going to let the images do the talking for a change….

The new Marvelous Moxie lips collection from bareMinerals features 42 new shades of lipstick, lipgloss and lipliner in amazing, bright and super wearable shades using the highest quality of mineral ingredients and in the sleekest packaging too. I’ll review in detail soon, but if you want to browse you can visit your local store today or shop online.

Outfit Post: Spontaneous Photoshooting

This entire week has been insane, unlike any other week I’ve ever experienced. So much fun, so much time with friends and so much spontaneity, it’s been amazing. Anyway, on Sunday I was organised and took some photos of my outfit before I headed out so that I could bring you another outfit post, however, it soon turned out that it wasn’t necessary!

After a lovely afternoon of cocktails and food, my friends and I were wandering back to Waterloo to head home, slightly tipsy and enjoying the glorious sun. As we headed home, we got stopped by a group of photographers wanting to take our pictures. Being polite we agreed and me, being slightly tipsy said I’d hang around for the rest of the evening since I had nothing better to do. Ended up modelling with the group for the rest of the evening and got some great images from the shoot.

So, the bright orange hair dye I had in my hair has faded significantly now, so I’m back to a strawberry blonde colour. This photo was taken on Southbank, posing in front of an old fashioned ice cream truck. The owner gave me a free ice cream after the shoot. Win! The sunglasses are vintage, from Tramp Vintage in Brighton. Make up wise I’m wearing Oriflame Neo Chic Lipstick in Bright Pink with Illamasqua blusher in Lover.

My dress is a gingham shirt dress from H by Henry Holland from Debenhams. It’s short, but it’s very pretty. I added a brown belt instead of the white one it came with to match my boots. It’s got pretty white lace flowers around the shoulders and a nice full skirt. I’m wearing a flower wreath that I got from New Look last year for super cheap and just haven’t gotten around to wearing, I love them, just such a simple way to brighten an outfit.

Ok, so this dude that I’m posing with on the bridge is Mikey, a totally awesome American who runs a photography blog called Lighten Up and Shoot, he’s also the organiser of the lighting workshop that I ended up modelling for. So much fun, in fact everyone was awesome. In this shot you can see my beloved Cambridge Satchel and the shortness of this dress!

And I had to finish on a daft photo! I’ll add some more photos are they come through to my Facebook page if anyone is interested in seeing them.

I had such a great day being spontaneous and being a yes girl! I’m so pleased that I’m jumping at opportunities since the separation from my husband, I’m having a lot of fun and am very happy. This was perfect timing too, as I’m really keen to start modelling regularly again and would love to collaborate with more photographers for shoots for the blog, so if you know anyone, please get in touch and we can discuss projects!

Bondi Bather Launches in the UK with International Modelling Competition

So, apparently it’s Summer right now in the UK? It might not look or feel like it, but I’m sure many of you will be planning on making the most of the opportunity to get into your swimwear and shorts and hit a festival or a beach somewhere looking stylish. Sadly, I won’t be. However, brand new swimwear brand Bondi Bather is strongly making me wish I was going somewhere and that I had a reason to spend on some on a new swimsuit. The new collection from British business woman and Bondi resident Kerry Cusack launched exclusively online this month and I really wanted to show you some of the key pieces from the collection.

bondi3The Bondi Bather range features bikini separates and one pieces in top notch fabric with a UV rating of 50+, the luxurious fabric ensures that your Bondi Bather will maintain its perfect cut and colour will last for years, making them investment pieces for daytime styling or sea side lounging. My favourite pieces fromt the collection feature bright, colourful photographic prints from Bondi Beach resident and photographer, Brad Malyon, to boot, Brad is also a Bondi lifeguard and star of Aussie TV show, Bondi Rescue. Each colour and print appears on a choice of eight different pieces from skimpy string bikinis to practical racer back swimsuits. There is literally something for everyone.

bondiTo coincide with the launch of Bondi Bather in the UK, the brand have also launched a fabulous international modelling competition via their social media channels. The competition is the search for the next face of Bondi Bather. Judged by a celebrity panel, one winner will win a trip to Australia for her and a friend and the chance to star in a photoshoot for Bondi Bather. For all those budding models out there, this is a great opportunity to have an amazing experience and to gain some valuable modelling experience. As an ex-model myself, I know how challenging it is to break into the industry, so an opportunity like this is not to be sniffed at.

If you or someone you know would like to enter this excellent modelling competition, they can do so via the Bondi Beach Facebook page, submissions are also being taken via Twitter and Instagram when you tag a photo with #FaceOfBondiBather.

Are You a Real Woman?

I really hate the term ‘real woman’, it’s basically a term that seems to categorise women who aren’t professional model build, generally over a size 14, curvy and usually short. I’ve just gone on a rant about this, having seen a brand do a shout out for models of a size 8-10 and over 5’9 for a photoshoot, instantly it’s attacked by people who don’t fit the criteria, saying that they should use ‘real women’. Despite this brand always using a variety of models in sizes 8-20, they are still attacked as it’s not seen as fair. I hate this, people complaining at this saying that girls in that category aren’t ‘real women’ is actually an insult. I am a freaking real woman and I do have curves, you don’t have to be plus sized with massive tits to constitute as a real woman surely?

PinupMeasuringTape

Who came up with this term? They need a kick up the ass, it’s just another way to make women feel concerned about their bodies. Why can’t we all just be happy and and healthy and not concerned about what body type, category or number is on your clothing sizes. I’m naturally tall and slim, but I still have curves, I’d kill to have more curves and being tall can be a complete pain when it comes to meeting men or buying clothes, but I’m happy with how I am. I feel the term real women is thrown about without much thought by those who aren’t confident in themselves and I would just like to publish this post to get people to think about what being a women is actually again.

Women are strong, beautiful, caring and get to play with fashion and make up to get that confidence kick. We’ve gone through so much in history, it seems a shame that the modern woman is so bogged down worrying about her size. If you love yourself, others will love you too, not matter what shape, size or height you are.

Here’s some of the awesome tweets I got on the issue…

It’s been a while since I had a rant, I hope you find it interesting and most importantly I would LOVE to read what you think about the term ‘real women’ and what you think the modern day woman’s views on body image are!
