Bondi Bather Launches in the UK with International Modelling Competition

So, apparently it’s Summer right now in the UK? It might not look or feel like it, but I’m sure many of you will be planning on making the most of the opportunity to get into your swimwear and shorts and hit a festival or a beach somewhere looking stylish. Sadly, I won’t be. However, brand new swimwear brand Bondi Bather is strongly making me wish I was going somewhere and that I had a reason to spend on some on a new swimsuit. The new collection from British business woman and Bondi resident Kerry Cusack launched exclusively online this month and I really wanted to show you some of the key pieces from the collection.

bondi3The Bondi Bather range features bikini separates and one pieces in top notch fabric with a UV rating of 50+, the luxurious fabric ensures that your Bondi Bather will maintain its perfect cut and colour will last for years, making them investment pieces for daytime styling or sea side lounging. My favourite pieces fromt the collection feature bright, colourful photographic prints from Bondi Beach resident and photographer, Brad Malyon, to boot, Brad is also a Bondi lifeguard and star of Aussie TV show, Bondi Rescue. Each colour and print appears on a choice of eight different pieces from skimpy string bikinis to practical racer back swimsuits. There is literally something for everyone.

bondiTo coincide with the launch of Bondi Bather in the UK, the brand have also launched a fabulous international modelling competition via their social media channels. The competition is the search for the next face of Bondi Bather. Judged by a celebrity panel, one winner will win a trip to Australia for her and a friend and the chance to star in a photoshoot for Bondi Bather. For all those budding models out there, this is a great opportunity to have an amazing experience and to gain some valuable modelling experience. As an ex-model myself, I know how challenging it is to break into the industry, so an opportunity like this is not to be sniffed at.

If you or someone you know would like to enter this excellent modelling competition, they can do so via the Bondi Beach Facebook page, submissions are also being taken via Twitter and Instagram when you tag a photo with #FaceOfBondiBather.

Are you heading somewhere exotic on your holidays this year?

What do you think of Bondi Bather?

Are You a Real Woman?

I really hate the term ‘real woman’, it’s basically a term that seems to categorise women who aren’t professional model build, generally over a size 14, curvy and usually short. I’ve just gone on a rant about this, having seen a brand do a shout out for models of a size 8-10 and over 5’9 for a photoshoot, instantly it’s attacked by people who don’t fit the criteria, saying that they should use ‘real women’. Despite this brand always using a variety of models in sizes 8-20, they are still attacked as it’s not seen as fair. I hate this, people complaining at this saying that girls in that category aren’t ‘real women’ is actually an insult. I am a freaking real woman and I do have curves, you don’t have to be plus sized with massive tits to constitute as a real woman surely?

PinupMeasuringTape

Who came up with this term? They need a kick up the ass, it’s just another way to make women feel concerned about their bodies. Why can’t we all just be happy and and healthy and not concerned about what body type, category or number is on your clothing sizes. I’m naturally tall and slim, but I still have curves, I’d kill to have more curves and being tall can be a complete pain when it comes to meeting men or buying clothes, but I’m happy with how I am. I feel the term real women is thrown about without much thought by those who aren’t confident in themselves and I would just like to publish this post to get people to think about what being a women is actually again.

Women are strong, beautiful, caring and get to play with fashion and make up to get that confidence kick. We’ve gone through so much in history, it seems a shame that the modern woman is so bogged down worrying about her size. If you love yourself, others will love you too, not matter what shape, size or height you are.

Here’s some of the awesome tweets I got on the issue…

It’s been a while since I had a rant, I hope you find it interesting and most importantly I would LOVE to read what you think about the term ‘real women’ and what you think the modern day woman’s views on body image are!

Outfit Post: Uniqlo x Laduree T-Shirt

Oh how I wish I had time to do regular outfit posts! Respect to the fashion bloggers out there who produce amazing, top quality, full length fashion portraits for their posts, you are amazing! My problem is, I’ve lost my camera remote, I don’t have a lot of indoor space, I’m rarely free when it’s daylight outside and I’m so tall it’s hard to fit in the frame in a self shot portrait!

My other problem is that I have to mess with portraits too, I love Photoshop too much, so I have to play with things which takes more time than it should, for example, in this first photo I’ve added extra background where there was a door and cupboard and I’ve meddled with curves, contrast and added a sepia photo filter. Geek over and let’s talk about the clothes!

Laduree Macaron Macaroons White Uniqlo T Shirt SS13 Jayne J Read Jayne's Kitschen Review Outfit PostRight now, I’m totally loving Uniqlo, I can pretty much guarantee that I’ll find something I love in there at the moment and without having to worry about over spending. They’ve had some excellent collaborations lately and I’ve bought from nearly all of them and when I get around to it I hope to share them with you too. However, the most exciting collaboration in women’s wear this Spring Summer 2013 has got to be the Laduree range! When I spotted this macaron sprinkled top, I just had to get myself to a store pronto!

Uniqlo Laduree Macaron Macaroons T Shirt Review Hello Boys Jayne J Read Jayne's Kitschen Fashion Blog LondonIf I had bigger boobs, I’d be saying ‘Hello Boys!’ in this photo, but alas, no! Anyway, what I’m actually trying to show you is how cute the Uniqlo x Laduree t-shirt is. This is a smart white t-shirt, with slightly puffed sleeves and a high scooped neckline. The print is illustrated, water colour styled macarons and gold script with Laduree related words on it. Cute! And guess what, only £12.90! Lovely quality cotton and totally worth it.

I’ve been teaming it tucked into my AW Wear brown checked high waisted shorts and a cute skinny belt from Forever 21 (another recent shopping find!)

Half Moon Manicure Uniqlo x Laduree Macaron Macaroon T Shirt Review Outfit Post Jayne J Read Jayne's Kitschen London British Fashion BlogI had to do this photo, because from what I’m learning about fashion blogger this is one of the necessary poses. And I wanted to show off my half moon manicure with Illamasqua Throb Nail Polish and my J Scrabble Ring.

So yes, that’s a outfit post from me. Hope you liked it. Please let me know if you’d like to see more. I just need to find the flipping camera remote and then that will make outfit posts easier.

Inglot Freedom System Eyeshadow Palette Review and Swatches

I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to write up this review as this is by far the most exciting make up related thing I’ve bought in the last six months. I visited the Inglot shop at Westfield for the first time way back at the start of the year and was so impressed with the selection and excellent customer service. Seriously, I don’t get why people buy MAC when there are so many other brands for a similar price point.Inglot Freedom System Eyeshadow Palette Review and SwatchesThe key product in Inglot are the Freedom System Palettes. A magnetic palette available in a variety of sizes which you can customise with your choice of blush, eyeshadow and lip pans. It’s so much fun picking and mixing to make your own palette and there are so many exciting shades to pick from.

Inglot Freedom System Eyeshadow Palette Review and SwatchesSince it was my first attempt at trying out Inglot, I opted for a modest five man palette and honestly I must have spent an hour trying to decide which shades to go for! So much choice. The palettes are so lovely and have a great magnetic closing making them easy to travel with and store. It’s so fun popping out all the individual pans after you get home to assemble your DIY palette.

Inglot Freedom System Eyeshadow Palette Review and SwatchesThe translucent lid can be removed completely or can be attached by four very strong magnets, which also allow for easy opening and closing. The palette is a nice chunky matte plastic, which is very sturdy.

Inglot Freedom System Eyeshadow Palette Review and SwatchesI went for a selection of colours that I could wear everyday to make the most of the palette. Don’t they look pretty? All of these shades have a shimmer finish, but Inglot do offer a range of different finishes and shades for every taste. The white in this palette is a great highlighter and the champagne colour I often use as a base for any other make up looks. Here they are swatched in true beauty blogger style…

Inglot Freedom System Eyeshadow Palette Review and SwatchesSuper soft pigments with plenty of colours and easy to blend. Completely on par with MAC, but works out a little bit better value as the pans are larger. If you want to play with a great professional make up brand that isn’t mainstream, this is a good one to give a go. They have some flipping awesome nail polish and lip colours too. I really need to get there more often.

Have you tried anything from Inglot?

What colours would you put in your own palette?

Balance Me Skin Bright Hydrating Face Mist Review

So, facial waters seem to have been one of the buzz products in beauty for a couple of years now. I’ve not tried many, as to be fair I haven’t really understood the point, since most of them are just fancy water in a spritz bottle. However, I’ve been playing with a few since being sent this one from Balance Me and I think I get them now.

Balance Me Skin Bright Hydrating Face Mist Review British Beauty Blog Jayne's Kitschen

The Balance Me Skin Bright Hydrating Face Mist contains 99% ingredients from a natural origin and is made entirely in the UK, which is so rare these days. Previously, I’ve not been too fussed about Balance Me as a brand, the packaging doesn’t pull me in so much and the first thing I ever tried, their Rose Lip Balm was horrible and it turned me off the brand completely.

Balance Me doesn’t contain any nasties either, such as sulphates, pegs, petroleum, pegs, artificial fragrance and colours. So this makes it a perfect choice for those with sensitive skin or just those with concern over what they put on their skin.

Balance Me Skin Bright Hydrating Face Mist Review British Beauty Blog Jayne's Kitschen

I love the bottle of this one, it’s frosted glass so feels like quality. My only complaint is that this is the sort of product that I would love to carry around with me, but with it being glass it makes it a little less practical. Anyway, onto the actual contents of the product!

This facial water has some lush ingredients: rose, pineapple, neroli and hyaluronic acid (a fantastic hydrator). The Balance Me Face Mist has a great pump action which spritzes a light and even stream of product, making it very easy to apply. The scent is divine, uplifting and refreshing and the texture of the product is super light weight and leaves the skin feeling fresh and toned. I’ve been using this over the top of my make up for a fix and a uplift, but it can also be used as a conventional toner.

At £20 a bottle it is pricey, but with rose based products it’s a high price you’ve got to expect. I would totally pay for it again, it’s a lovely product. I would totally recommend it.

Illamasqua Paranormal Palette Review with Swatches

You all know how much I heart Illamasqua right? Well, from the new collection, my favourite thing I’ve tried so far is by far the Paranormal Palette, a quad of four mystical shades of a formula that I’ve never seen before. The compact is the usual gloss black compact with a large mirror and imprinted with the insignia for Illamsaqua. My only complaint with this is that marks show up really strongly on this material.

Illamasqua Paranormal Palette Review with Swatches Beauty Blog Jayne Read Jayne's KitschenAt first glance, these shades look terrifying to most, not something you think you could wear easily, least of all on a daily basis. However, I’m pleased to say that they are more versatile than it looks. The colours in the palette are  Paranormal (vivid cerise), Aura (warm copper), Trance (soft violet) or Possession (cool green). Each formula is an unusual silicone based creamy shadow, designed for long wear and easy blending.

Illamasqua Paranormal Palette Review with Swatches Beauty Blog Jayne Read Jayne's Kitschen

Here they are swatched, as you can see they are much softer shades than they look in the palette. The textures are really unusual, the are soft and blendable like a cream but have more of a powder finish. There’s a soft shimmer to the shades that isn’t glittery. Very, very pretty. I didn’t think I’d care much for the pink or orange, but I love every shade in this palette.

I’ve been using this palette nearly everyday, which I’m very surprised at. There’s so many options with the colour combinations and they all blend together beautifully. Here’s a couple of looks that I’ve been wearing…

Jurlique Rose Silk Finishing Powder Review

It’s been a while since I found a product that I love so much it becomes a staple in my daily routine, but it’s easy to say that this little beauty is one of them. I’ve been after a new finishing powder for sometime, and have had my eye on this one for quite sometime. I’ve never tired Jurlique before but am a huge fan of rose scented products so it only seemed fitting that I give it a go!

Jurlique Rose Silk Finishing Powder Review Rose Scented Jayne's Kitschen Blog Review Beauty Blog

The packaging of the entire range is beautiful, simple, sophisticated and clean. I love the matte cardboard they use for the boxes and the soft botanical photography to add a touch of feminity to the design. The main appeal for me with this finishing powder is the rose scent and that it also claims to balance skin, it’s more than just a typical finishing powder.

Jurlique Rose Silk Finishing Powder Review Rose Scented Jayne's Kitschen Blog Review Beauty Blog

The compact is very good quality. A matte black lid with a gloss logo and a clear plastic tub. The lid has a sensible click close mechanism to keep things tidy and easy to store.

Jurlique Rose Silk Finishing Powder Review Rose Scented Jayne's Kitschen Blog Review Beauty Blog

There’s a good sized mirror in there and a super soft applicator pad with the ribbon logo handle. You can use this to press powder on the skin in a rolling motion to disguise pores and fine lines. Alternatively, for a soft, lightweight coverage you can use a brush (I use a Clinique Bronzer Brush) to lightly dust to fix make up and balance shine and oil.

Jurlique Rose Silk Finishing Powder Review Rose Scented Jayne's Kitschen Blog Review Beauty BlogOne of the reasons why this is a superior powder to others are the top quality ingredients. Most finishing powders and powder based products have a talc base, which can be drying on cakey on the skin. This powder is talc free and instead is a super fine, super silky formula, enriched with Arnica to soothe and cool the skin. Corn starch, rice starch and silican leave a smooth finish to the skin.

I love this product because it feels super lightweight and really does the job. It fixes make up in place all day with only the tiniest amount and leaves skin super soft with a airbrushed look and light rose scent. Truly delicious. Retailing at £24.50 it is a treat worth spending on.

What’s your favourite finishing powder?

Ch…ch…Changes…

Stupid blog post title, I know. Couldn’t resist. And here’s my inspiration…

So, I’ve not blogger properly for ages, so just wanted to do a quick blog post to let you know what it going on with me, as there’s been a lot going on. I’m not usually one to overshare or post about personal stuff on here, but you know what, lots of things are changing right now,  I think it’s ok. So basically, I’ve been off the radar for a bit because I separated with my husband a few months ago, we’d been together for 9 years, since we were 16 and married for three. We basically grew up together. So naturally, that’s changed my whole life over a very short period of time. Yes, it’s sad and difficult to deal with sometimes, but really, it’s an opportunity. For the first time in a very long time I’ve been doing things entirely for myself instead of thinking about someone else. I’m just about to start the divorce paperwork, so can confidently say that it’s the end of that era.

I cut my hair into a fringe, dyed it orange, started wearing brighter clothes and make up. Started listening to my own music choices again, watching what I wanted on television, eating what I wanted. For the first time in a very long time I feel like myself again. I didn’t realise at the time how much I had adapted to the situation, but right now I realise that I had changed and I needed to get back to being myself. Right now, I feel amazing about myself.

Being with the same person since the age of 16 also meant that I had never really dated, so I’ve gotten myself into online dating and have been dating for the first time ever, which is proving a lot of fun. I don’t know what will happen, but at least I’ll have fun. Everyone I’ve met has been interesting, so even if nothing else comes of anything, I’ve met some interesting potential friends.

For the past 7 years or so I haven’t been much of a drinker, I don’t really know why but it’s never really been for me. I’ve not been a frequent pub or bar goer and had never been in a club, ever. I used to go to gigs, but I see that in a different category. So, since splitting with hubby, I’ve had my first ever vodka shot and last night under the influence of London Beauty Queen and Stu Bradley I spent a wonderful night in Soho, I drank my first Jagerbomb and was dancing like a complete fool to Spice Girls, Bieber and Lady Gaga in a gay night club. I honestly never thought I would be doing that, yet I had so much fun. I feel like I’ve broken out of my shell and that I can be adventurous and not worry as much as I used to.

I started a new job recently, with amazing brands and amazing people and I’m very happy there too. So basically, although this all stems from something very sad, it’s ultimately been an excellent change which has made me a stronger, happier and more confident person. I don’t have any regrets about my past, but wanted to take this opportunity to be open with my readers and share with you a few thing that I’ve learnt.

Don’t change for anyone, be yourself and the version of yourself that makes you happy, if someone doesn’t like it, they aren’t worth being with. You can’t change the past, so don’t regret it, everything becomes part of you and helps you grow, so see the positives in all the mistakes you may have made. Seize the day, if you want to do something, do it! Don’t make excuses and don’t be afraid, you’ll have more fun that way.

I’ll be back to blogging properly soon, but just wanted to put that out there and let you know where I’m at.

Guest Post: Exclusive Illamasqua David Bowie Make Up Show with Alex Box at Selfridges

Today I’m handing over to my lovely work colleague and friend, Sinead. I’ve recently started my new job and was delighted to find that me and Sinead had so much in common, including a shared love for Illamasqua and Alex Box, so found it only fitting that I invite her to guest blog after attending the amazing David Bowie Selfridges Show.

Sinead doesn’t have her own blog just yet, but you can follow her on Twitter as @SineadyMcG

Last week I was a VERY lucky girl and won a seat at the exclusive Illamasqua make-up show in Selfridges with Creative Director and make-up mastermind, Alex Box! (Thanks Elle magazine!) I’ve been a huge fan of Alex Box since discovering her back in 2010, when she was featured on the cover of The Sunday Times Style Magazine. I remember looking at the outrageous colours and over exaggerated facial contours and thinking “Wow, this lady is real special!”.

The Looks

Having the opportunity to watch Alex in action, creating bespoke Bowie inspired beauty looks was a true inspiration. In a frenzied effort to scribble down what she was doing, how she was doing it and the effect it created, below I share my highlights on how to recreate the looks at home!

Look 1

Illamasqua Alex Box David Bowie Make Up Show Natural Look Selfridges

The first look performed was the more “natural” looking one out of the two looks created:

  • Shoulder hallows were exaggerated by shading them using the same colour to create the facial contours
  • The same colour was applied to the nose ridges, extended and elongated eye sockets, under and up the chin and in the cupid’s bow
  • Light shading was also applied around the nostrils and lips
  • A shimmer skin colour eye shadow was used on the eyes, lined with a lighter liner
  • Nude lips
  • Highlighter on the cheeks and lips

Look 2

Alex Box Illamasqua Selfridges David Bowie Make Up Show Look Three Make Up Artist

To create the second look, Alex continues to work and add to the first look. The make up show advertised three Bowie inspired looks, but Alex’s second look was a combination of the third look also, as in the words of Alex herself she just “went with the feeling”.

  • Pink was used under the bronzed cheek hallows
  • Pink shading was brushed over the shoulder dips, followed up the neck and under the chin and continued up the jaw line
  • This same colour was used to re-work the inner eye socket and forehead lining
  • Light pink shimmer was added to the lips, making them pop!
  • For big defined winged eyes, cut triangles out of paper and use it as a stencil
  • Finish with a shimmer highlighter down the nose ridges and on the lips, mixed with gold for a two toned look

Q&A with Alex Box

Have you been emotionally inspired since becoming a mother?

I’ve always been emotional with my work, I like to feel the make up and as you can probably see I like to be messy. Since becoming a mum, I would say that I am more precious with my time – even more then before.

If you had to reinvent a super hero/ villain, who would it be?

The Joker, I like how he’s so groomed that it’s sick and wrong

What is your advice for the next generation of the Illamasqua awards?

Follow your heart, that will be your selling point so hold on to it. Along the way you’ll have people say that it’s to much or not enough. Don’t let there opinions phase you.

Block out the noise, that’s everything from people to magazines and the internet.

Before creating a look, do you just plunge in or do you like to study what you’re working with first?

I’ve worked with Georgie many times now. I think it’s important to know and feel the model, this helps you be more sympathetic towards the skin. Don’t be rigid with what you expect from yourself, my early work was so anal, I could spend hours on one eye. “Boldness of attack” is a saying I like, as I have had to un-break my own rules.

What artist inspired you?

Francis Bacon. His work morphs and changes but essentially stays himself (like David Bowie).

Sounds like an amazing event! I wish I could have gone!

What do you think of Alex Box’s make up artistry?

Are you a David Bowie fan?
